Helvetica is everywhere
Helvetica is everywhere

Introduction

You might argue there is hardly anything that needs to be said about Helvetica anymore. And you might be right to think so. There are entire books on the subject, and even a 2007 full length movie about the typeface.

Or you might not know anything about Helvetica. But even then, you have seen it for sure. In fact, if you are viewing this site on a modern browser, you are seeing it right now. But what remains interesting to see is how Helvetica, a product of modernism, still remains one of the most, if not the most wildly used typeface in America and around the world. Both in Print, Advertisement and the Web.

Outset

Why then make an entire website, text and essay devoted to and about Helvetica?

This website does not intend to give a full account of its History. Neither can it offer an accurate overview of its different interations. No, but rather offer a glimpse into the why and how of Helvetica and why can be seen no matter where we go. It is intended to be my own unique perspective and views on the world's most ubiquitous typeface, and, perhaps most importantly, its future.

By looking at the history and the versions of Helvetica, we can perhaps understand somewhat its almost universal appeal, and better see how and where Helvetica is headed into the future, especially in a World in which Print and Webdesign are merely two sides of the same coin.
